Plug In. Hear More.
The AK HC5 is Astell&Kern's most compact hi-fi statement yet–a high-end portable DAC and amplifier cable powered by the same flagship AK4499EX DAC previously reserved for their top-tier digital audio players, delivering a level of sound quality your phone was never designed to give you on its own. Paired with the AK4191EQ digital processor, the two work in tandem to cleanly separate digital and analog signals, keeping noise out of the equation and musical detail firmly in it. The result is a listening experience that doesn't just sound good for a dongle–it sounds good, full stop.
The AK HC5 isn't just the best USB DAC cable Astell&Kern has made — it's a genuine rethinking of what a Portable USB DAC cable can be–redefining high-quality amplification in a compact form factor that fits in your pocket. Flagship chip. Flagship driving power. Flagship control. Astell&Kern's "Solid Flow" design philosophy is visible in every curve of the AK HC5, balancing structural rigidity and fluid elegance with an optional premium polyurethane case that adds a layer of protection without sacrificing the product's refined look and feel. If you've been settling for whatever sound your phone gives you out of the box, the AK HC5 is your wake-up call.
Flagship-Grade Performance in Your Pocket
Flagship Power. Pocket-Friendly Size. Compact enough to hold in the palm of your hand, the AK HC5 is a USB DAC Cable that delivers flagship power in a pocket-friendly size. The HC5's High Driving Mode Technology, first perfected in the SP4000 DAP, has been engineered into the AK HC5's compact chassis, delivering a horizontal OPAMP layout that produces driving power on a completely different level from typical portable DAC cables–regardless of whether you're driving IEMs, planars, or full-size headphones from brands like Meze or Campfire Audio. Rich density, deep spaciousness, and powerful energy, that's what flagship-grade sound feels like in the palm of your hand.
Pure Signal. No Compromise. Because the AK HC5 draws power from your device, noise suppression isn't optional–it's essential. A dedicated amp with class-leading PSRR and CMRR performance actively rejects incoming noise before it ever reaches your ears–preserving the full frequency response of whatever headphones or IEMs you're driving. The dual noise-shielded cable construction adds another layer of protection: tin-plated copper conductors resist corrosion, TPE insulation minimizes signal interference and crosstalk between channels, an aluminum film shield handles electromagnetic noise, and a tinned copper braided outer shield catches anything that gets through. Clean sound, at every link in the signal chain.
Total Control Over Your Sound
Your Sound, Your Way. The Astell&Kern HC5 puts you in the driver's seat, giving you control over how your music sounds. Digital Audio Remaster (DAR) technology upsamples the digital audio's sample rate using a high-precision algorithm, converting PCM files to DSD128 or DSD256 and pushing playback quality beyond what the original file alone can deliver. Six selectable DAC filters, from natural tone to traditional tone, are among the standout HC5 features that let you shape the character of your listening session even more. Adjust it to match your mood, your music, and your headphones–it's your choice!
The Astell&Kern's performance goes way beyond what's on the inside. A 150-step precision volume wheel, using the same encoder system found in Astell&Kern's dedicated players, gives you fine-tuned control that cheaper DAC cables simply can't achieve. A 1.62-inch OLED display keeps your settings and playback information front and center. These aren't afterthoughts–they're the details that make the difference, separating a tool from an experience.

FAQs
Does the AK HC5 require a driver to use?
On Windows 10 and 11, the driver installs automatically when you plug in the AK HC5. However, for DSD and high-resolution PCM playback on smartphones, a separate playback app (free or paid) must be installed. Using the default player will cause downsampling, so use a dedicated playback app for full-quality sound.
What headphones standards does the AK HC5 support?
The AK HC5 supports CTIA-standard 4-pole earphones and headphones. OMTP standard is not supported, so it's worth double-checking your headphones' standards if you're unsure.
What should I know about volume when first connecting the AK HC5?
We recommend always checking the volume level before connecting earphones or headphones. Depending on your device, the output level may default to maximum volume on the first connection, so always verify your volume control setting before use. When connected to an Astell&Kern player, the output volume will be fixed at maximum and cannot be adjusted from the player. Listening at maximum volume may cause serious hearing damage. Astell&Kern is not responsible for any injury or damage resulting from improper or careless use.
Wil Astell&Kern release firmware updates for the AK HC5?
Yes. Astell&Kern periodically releases firmware updates to improve system stability and performance. Updates are available under Support -> Download on the Astell&Kern website.
