A New Benchmark in Personal Audio
Introducing the new flagship IE 900 earphone from Sennheiser. Sennheiser headphones have long appealed for audiophiles, and their earphones can compete with the best of them. Replacing the IE 800S, the IE 900 embodies the peak of German audio engineering and manufacturing. Every aspect of the IE 900 has been engineered to work in harmony to achieve the desired acoustic tuning and to reduce resonances and masking effects. From the optimized 7mm transducers and innovative X3R resonator chamber technology to the precision-manufactured aluminum housing — every facet of the IE 900 is engineered to deliver the most pure, natural, and excellent sound that is brimming with detail. In fact, "every detail matters" was a guiding principle in the creation of the IE 900.

The IE 900 — Goodbye to Trade-Offs
The IE 900 reveals the true potential of any recording. If it’s a masterpiece, you’ll hear it. Brilliant, sparkling treble — without any sibilance. Powerful lows without creating muddy mids. An uncanny ability to resolve fine detail — alongside warmth and comfort for extended sessions. All of these qualities derive from inspired feats of engineering. We’ve all experienced this: an amazing piece of music spoiled by a recurring bass note that happens to match the resonant frequency of your loudspeakers or headphones. Or rough treble sibilance that makes longer sessions uncomfortable. Such obvious deficiencies are unthinkable with the IE 900. All you will hear is precisely what the artist intended. They’re perfect at your desk, on a train, or taking a walk through the woods. Never have your listening experience spoiled by your earphones again.
"The IE 900's development focused on the demand for perfection and attention to detail. Sennheiser rose to the challenge and the result is a new dimension in in-ear headphone design and technology that meets event he most ambitious listening expectations. "
- Grit Bonin, Development Engineer for Acoustics
Single-Driver Design for the Utmost in Sound Quality
Multi-driver systems can introduce phase incoherence and unwanted distortion. The IE 900 boasts a single dynamic driver, which promises greater fidelity for listeners and eliminates phases issues and the resulting distortion in overlapping frequency bands.
Sennheiser's proprietary X3R transducer is a refined version of the company's 7mm TrueResponse transducer. The X3R system delivers a coherent, artifact-free "Sennheiser Sound" found in audiophile headphones up to 8 times larger! Sennheiser's X3R triple-chamber absorber technology (T3CA) is milled right into the solid aluminum housing of each earphone.
With T3CA, three Hemholtz resonator chambers are precision drilled into the aluminum chassis of the IE 900 and placed between the diaphragm and the nozzle.
These tiny channels eliminate resonance peaks which, in less advanced products, can color the sound signature and alter the feel of your music. In addition, a complex structure in the nozzle of each earphone — the Vortex — swirls acoustic energy in these frequency bands to smooth out peaks.
The acoustic vortex maximizes acoustic friction so that excessive energy is scattered. According to Sennheiser, it is the tuning of the X3R systems resonator chambers that make the IE 900 truly stand out and why they offer such exceptionally good high frequency translation. The result? You hear more detail. Additionally, a new membrane foil lends a high degree of inner dampening, ensuring minimized natural resonances and distortion.
Acoustic Back-Volume Establishes Balance
Sennheiser's goal was to achieve a high-quality, transparent sound with no distracting peaks or troughs. One thing this requires is clear separation of lows and mids. To ensure accuracy across this critical frequency band, Sennheiser employed what is known as an acoustic back-volume. It’s a small chamber within a chamber Sennheiser tuned to manage the slope and amplitude of the base lift. The way the back-volume helps achieve such a clear and natural sound signature is by controlling the direction and overall volume of air as it moves through the transducer system. What you hear is a pleasantly disciplined bass and mid-range experience. Unpleasant resonances and listening fatigue vanish in this small space with a big effect.
Aluminum as the Material of Choice for the IE 900
Aluminum was the material of choice for the housing on the IE 900. Well-suited to high-precision milling, it also provides an aesthetically pleasing, long-lasting home for electro-acoustic components. A five-axis CNC machine precision cuts each housing individually from a single block of aluminum. The result is truly a work of art. Once anodized, the housing is highly resistant to wear and corrosion. The drivers in each pair of IE 900s are matched during the automated manufacturing process to practically eliminate variance. The result? A transparent soundstage with no gaps or holes.
A Precise Fit for Precise Sound
Imagine a fit so secure and comfortable that even the most discerning professionals would choose it. Working musicians rely on form-fitting IEms to use as personal monitors. Sennheiser believes the privilege of enjoying perfect live sound should not be the exclusive right of performers. So, Sennheiser took the comfort and secure fit of these professional solutions as inspiration for the IE 900. Now you can enjoy a fit and quality that rival that experienced by the artists who create your music. Included with the IE 900 are silicone ear adapters and three elastic foam ear adapter sets in three different sizes. They adapt to the natural shape of your ear for a tailored fit, with the added security of memory wire earhooks. Whatever your ergonomic scenario, be it in your office or on the go, you'll never have to worry about fiddling with the fit of your IEMs.
Cables and Connectors
In addition to outstanding sound, audiophiles appreciate durable products that are made to last. Gold-plated Fidelity+ MMCX connectors ensure perfect contact. Each termination is seated within a recessed, 4.8 mm-wide socket below the surface of the housing, providing strain relief. The cables themselves are para-aramid reinforced for durability -- and you get three of them. Connect to practically any digital audio source with the 3.5 mm stereo plug including headphone amps, laptops, and audio interfaces. Each pair of IE 900s also includes symmetrical 2.5 mm and 4.4 mm cables for plugging directly into hi-fi components with balanced outputs.
