It maintains Technics iconic Grand Class silhouette while adding refined gold accents that distinguish it from the standard "G" model. The 4-layered bottom chassis combines premium aluminium die-cast with BMC (Bulk Molding Compound), a hairline-processed, 10mm-thick aluminum top plate, and a heavyweight rubber coating on the bottom. What you get is a mechanically rigid foundation that suppresses unwanted vibrations for an undisturbed vinyl tracking process.
Technics ramps it up with a 3-layered turntable platter design made of aluminum die-cast, vibration-suppressing heavyweight rubber on the bottom, and a 2mm thick brass top plate for additional vibration reduction. The noise floor on the SL-1200/1210GME is vanishingly low, and that silence isn't dead or sterile; it's musical. But not artificially musical. When I dropped the needle on "Take A Chance On Me" from ABBA Gold, the immediacy was striking. The first few seconds of this song are my absolute favorite. You get this a cappella-style crescendo of vocals from the band members, which quickly opens up into the musical chorus. It's a complex and highly unique passage. The SL-1200/1210GME presented those initial vocals with natural body and authority. Paired with the Focal Sopra No. 2 Loudspeakers, the system delivered a three-dimensional presence that made the recording feel as if it were being performed live in front of me.
When I listened to Tame Impala's album The Slow Rush, specifically my favorite song "One More Year," which is a fast-paced, electronic-heavy production with psychedelic pop elements. It has a whole lot going on, and there's no shortage of dynamic range in this track. That full dynamic range was achieved with the SL-1200/1210GME.
